Flight Configuration Redesign of the HUNCH ISS Galley Table-Table Elements

The current Galley table on the ISS is a HUNCH designed and manufactured table for the crew to gather around and share meals and conversation.

The task is to now revisit the design and create a thinner, lighter, and easier to attach, and easier to manufacture.

This would include elements such as:

  • Redesign for ease of manufacturing. Reduce machining time required on a MIll or Lathe by using tools such as a waterjet to speed part manufacturing.
  • Handrail attachment method can this be built into the table? Your design or COTS could be much better.
  • Option: Manfrotto style AV clamps?
  • Lower Weight / Mass of the table.
  • Reduce the thickness.
  • Use aerospace approved materials.
  • New built in style table handrails.
  • Keep the Large Leaf and Small Leaf, Assembly but design a new COTS hinge system. Use a COTS / MIL Spec hinge for this application.
  • COTS -Slide Bolt Assembly to lock the Small Leaf in a extended position or folded.
